Starship Entertainment continues to take a strong stance against the YouTuber Sojang.
On January 24, LIWU Law Group attorney Jung Kyung Suk representing Starship stated to Sport Chosun, "Both the lawsuit filed by Jang Won Young personally and the one filed by Starship Entertainment will go through the entire legal process until a verdict is reached in regards to Sojang."
The agency has disclosed that, since November 2022, they have been actively pursuing legal action against Ms. Park, the individual responsible for operating the channel "Sojang," which persistently harassed their artists. This legal pursuit includes both civil and criminal lawsuits, extending to overseas jurisdictions. Notably, the criminal complaint has recently transitioned from the police to the prosecutor's office, awaiting a comprehensive legal evaluation.
Despite these legal developments, Sojang maintained her innocence in a written response submitted during the trial. Sojang asserted that she was unaware of the falsity of the information she released and claimed that the videos were not intended for the public interest. Sojang is contesting the requested compensation of 100 million KRW (75,000 USD), deeming it excessively high.
In response, Starship Entertainment stated they will continue to pursue stern legal action.
Attorney Jung emphasized, "Today, January 24, marked the deadline for Starship's damages lawsuit, and the subsequent hearing is slated for April 3. We are committed to seeing both lawsuits through to a final resolution."
Sojang, a cyber wrecker YouTube channel, has propagated malicious rumors targeting various K-pop artists, including Jang Won Young, BTS, ATEEZ, NewJeans, and more.
Jang Won Young has been the target of harmful and untrue rumors, including false dating stories and claims of disagreements. To protect her, Starship Entertainment, her management company, took legal steps against Sojang, the source of these rumors in 2023. Starship obtained important information from Google's main office to help their case. After obtaining this information, Starship is actively pursuing both a domestic civil lawsuit and an international legal case against Sojang.
