Singer and actress Jang Na Ra has stunned fans with a candid revelation about her health struggles and personal life.
On December 12, Jang appeared on actress Chae Jung An’s YouTube channel, where the two high school classmates reminisced about their school days, career beginnings, and the highs and lows of stardom.
During the conversation, Jang reflected on her illustrious career but also revealed the toll it took on her health. "I was always exhausted. My body was breaking down—I had abnormal liver function, stomach ulcers, and even an intestinal perforation. I was living recklessly," she shared.
Chae commented on Jang’s early success, mentioning her accolades as a teenage singer. "You even won awards; I was envious," Chae said. Jang humbly responded, "It was all luck. I was fortunate to have people who helped me wherever I went. That’s something I’m still grateful for. Even now, I keep working because the fact that I get opportunities is a blessing, despite there being so many people more talented than me."
Jang’s latest work was the SBS drama 'Good Partner', which aired its finale in September. She played the role of Cha Eun Kyung, a star lawyer, earning critical and audience acclaim for her performance. Reflecting on the role, Jang said, "The character was compelling, and I’ve learned that enduring in this industry brings such roles my way. While building the character at first was fun, I hit a wall where I doubted my growth as an actress, wondering if this was the end for me."
The actress also touched on her marriage to a film director six years her junior, which made headlines in 2022. Jang shared an emotional moment involving her husband: "I asked him during filming and broadcasting, ‘What if I just quit here?" He told me, "I think I’d be sad." Hearing that, I immediately said, "Okay,’ and let go of those thoughts."
Jang Na Ra debuted in 2001 with her first album 'Burying My Face in Tears' and gained recognition in the MBC sitcom 'New Nonstop'. She later produced hits like 'Sweet Dream', 'April Story', 'Maybe It's Love', and 'I'm a Woman,Too'.
Her acting career soared with the 2002 SBS drama 'Successful Story of a Bright Girl', followed by various notable roles in dramas such as 'Confession Couple' (2017), 'The Last Empress' (2018–2019), 'VIP' (2019), and 'Family: The Unbreakable Bond' (2023).
