Police drop case against Park Na Rae's former boyfriend over personal data disclosure claims

BY Alec06 · June 1, 2026

The former boyfriend of comedian Park Na Rae has been cleared of allegations that he unlawfully provided her managers' personal information to police during the investigation into a burglary at her home.

According to police and legal sources on May 31, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station decided on May 18 not to refer Park's former boyfriend to prosecutors on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act, citing insufficient evidence.

He had been accused of suspecting Park's managers of involvement in the burglary that occurred at her home in Seoul's Yongsan District last year and providing their personal information, including names and resident registration numbers, to investigators.

The complainant alleged that he had obtained the information through employment contracts and procedures related to social insurance enrollment before submitting it to police.

During the investigation, police confirmed that he had provided the personal information in question. However, investigators concluded that there was insufficient evidence to prove the act was unlawful.

In its decision, police stated, "The suspect claims he obtained consent from the individuals concerned, while the managers identified as victims did not respond to requests from investigators and did not provide statements claiming damages."

Police added, "Based on the evidence currently available, there is insufficient objective proof to conclude that the provision of personal information was illegal."

The controversy emerged during the investigation into a burglary at Park's home. In April last year, Park reported that valuables worth tens of millions of won had been stolen from her residence in Seoul's Yongsan District. At the time, speculation that the crime may have involved someone from her inner circle led investigators to look into people around her. However, the suspect ultimately arrested was a man in his 30s who had no connection to Park.

The man was indicted on charges including nighttime residential burglary and was sentenced to two years in prison last month.
