BY Minsoo-Kim · May 14, 2026

Jeongyeon of TWICE expressed heartfelt gratitude toward her older sister, actress Gong Seung Yeon, for supporting her through difficult times.

On May 13 KST, tvN released a preview for next week’s episode of 'You Quiz on the Block' featuring Gong Seung Yeon.

In the preview, Gong Seung Yeon joked, “I bragged to my younger sister about appearing on the show first. Even TWICE hasn’t been on yet.”

The atmosphere soon turned emotional when a surprise interview clip of Jeongyeon was shown. Fighting back tears, Jeongyeon said, “It was a mentally difficult time for me. My sister held onto me and took me to the hospital.”

Jeongyeon previously experienced severe health struggles after taking steroids during treatment for a herniated disc in 2020, later developing Cushing syndrome and experiencing rapid weight changes. She also temporarily halted activities multiple times due to panic symptoms and health-related issues before recently returning to activities.

Gong Seung Yeon also reflected on her own difficult journey. Before becoming an actress, she spent seven years as a trainee under SM Entertainment but ultimately left without debuting.

She recalled, “I felt anxious and completely lost,” adding that her mother once told her, “I hope the oldest daughter succeeds first and helps guide her younger siblings.”

After enduring many years without major recognition, Gong Seung Yeon recently gained renewed popularity through 'Perfect Crown', which reportedly achieved peak ratings of 13.3%.

She also made viewers laugh by joking, “Maybe I should hop on the IU and Byeon Woo Seok train too.”
