Supreme Court upholds 2-year prison sentence in Park Na Rae home burglary case

BY Alec06 · April 20, 2026

South Korea’s Supreme Court has finalized a two-year prison sentence for a man in his 30s convicted of breaking into the home of Park Na Rae and stealing valuables worth tens of millions of won.

According to legal sources on April 16, the Supreme Court’s First Division dismissed the defendant’s appeal, upholding the lower court’s ruling on charges including theft and nighttime home intrusion. As a result, the two-year prison sentence has been confirmed.

Previously, the Seoul Western District Court’s appellate division had sentenced the defendant, identified as Jung, to two years in prison, matching the ruling of the first trial.

Jung was indicted for unlawfully entering Park Na Rae’s residence in Yongsan District, Seoul, in April 2025 and stealing high-value items before fleeing. He later attempted to sell the stolen goods. It was reported that he claimed he was unaware the home belonged to Park Na Rae at the time of the crime. He was also arrested for a separate burglary in the same district in late March 2025.

In its ruling, the court stated that although the defendant appealed on the grounds that the sentence was too harsh, there were no significant changes in circumstances to justify a reduced sentence. The court also noted that the crime was committed while the defendant was under a suspended sentence, making the original ruling reasonable.

Park Na Rae initially reported the theft after discovering that several valuable items stored in her Itaewon home had gone missing. She later shared that she identified one of the stolen luxury bags on a secondhand marketplace platform, which helped lead to the recovery of the items.

The comedian eventually confirmed that the suspect had been apprehended and that all stolen belongings were returned. She also spoke about the incident on MBC’s ‘Home Alone,’ saying, “A lot happened. It felt like I lived eight years in just eight days,” adding that the situation has since been resolved and she is now able to rest without stress.

During the trial, the defendant expressed remorse and admitted to all charges, requesting leniency while stating that he regretted committing the crime for financial reasons. However, the court ultimately upheld the original sentence, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense.
